Help with Dicteer
The app is available in Dutch and English. Below, buttons are quoted as they appear in the Dutch app, with a translation where it helps; if your iPhone is set to English you will see the English labels.
Contact
Can’t work it out? Email info@dicteer.com. Tell us which device and iOS version you have, what you did and what happened. A screenshot helps. We reply as soon as we can, usually within a few working days.
Setting up Dicteer
- Open Dicteer and follow the five steps. At Microfoon en privacy (microphone and privacy) you allow the microphone. If you choose a speech service, you first see where your voice goes and then tap Akkoord (agree).
- At Probeer het zelf (try it yourself) you do a trial dictation in the app, so you see what Dicteer makes of it.
- At Het toetsenbord (the keyboard) you turn on the keyboard in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards. Also turn on Allow Full Access there. Without Full Access the keyboard can’t talk to the app.
- Open the keyboard once in another app, such as Messages, and tap the dictate button. The app opens once to start the microphone. Go back with the arrow at the top left, or swipe right along the bar at the bottom.
Dictating with the keyboard
- Tap the dictate button, speak, and tap Stop. The text appears where your cursor is.
- Use the globe key to switch back to your regular keyboard.
- iOS doesn’t show keyboards from other apps in password fields, so you can’t dictate there with Dicteer. That’s an iOS safeguard.
- Don’t want to use the internet? In Settings > Spraakdienst en privacy (speech service and privacy), turn on the on-your-iPhone (offline) option. Everything then stays on your device, without AI cleanup.
Subscription and purchases
- Your subscription runs through your Apple Account, so you pay Apple, not us. Apple sends the confirmation and receipts.
- Manage or cancel: tap Beheer abonnement in Dicteer, or open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name and choose Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- Restore a purchase (new iPhone, reinstalled app): tap Herstel aankopen in Dicteer. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.
- Refunds are requested from Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides on them. We can’t reverse payments made through Apple ourselves.
- Fair use applies: 25 hours of dictation per month and 70 minutes per day. If you reach the limit, the app tells you. Offline dictation keeps working.
When something goes wrong
- “Geen geluid van de microfoon” (no sound from the microphone): is another app using the microphone? Close it and tap Dicteer again.
- “Opname onderbroken: de microfoon veranderde” (recording interrupted, the microphone changed): this happens when, for example, you connect or disconnect headphones while dictating. Nothing was inserted. Try again.
- “Zet Volledige toegang aan” (turn on Full Access): go to Settings > Keyboards > Dicteer and turn on Full Access.
- “Offline, zonder opschonen” (offline, without cleanup): you have no internet, so the text was recognised but not cleaned up. With internet it works fully again.
- “Nederlands staat niet op je iPhone” (Dutch isn’t on your iPhone): open Dicteer once with internet. iOS then downloads the Dutch model.
- “Zet Spraakherkenning aan voor Dicteer” (turn on Speech Recognition for Dicteer): turn on Speech Recognition in Settings > Dicteer.
- Keyboard doesn’t appear? Check that Dicteer is on in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards, and hold the globe key to select it.
Sending feedback
In the app: Settings > Hulp en feedback (help and feedback) > Feedback. Choose a topic (Tekst klopt niet, Duurt te lang, Werkt top or Ander probleem: text is wrong, takes too long, works great, other problem), add a note if you like, and tap Verstuur melding (send report). On the keyboard there’s a question mark at the bottom right with the same topics, without a text box. What a report contains is in the privacy policy.
Deleting your data
Use Verwijder mijn gegevens (delete my data) in the app. We immediately delete your devices on the server and the access token on your iPhone. Only a hash of your subscription, its status and usage counters are kept briefly against abuse (see the privacy policy). We never keep your recordings or dictated text anyway. Note that this doesn’t cancel your subscription with Apple. Do that in iOS Settings (Settings > your name > Subscriptions) or with Beheer abonnement. If your email address is on the waitlist, email info@dicteer.com. More in the privacy policy.
