Never. Type. Again.
You talk 3x faster
than you type.
Dicteer turns it into clean text, in any app. On your iPhone and your Mac.
Free while the beta runs. 3x faster according to research from Stanford University.
Zullen we zaterdag uit eten?
Goed plan! Hoe laat?
Lukt half zeven?
Same message. Three times as fast.
Typed on the left, spoken on the right. At the speeds from the Stanford study.
The same message of 86 characters. Typing takes 19.8 s, speaking it with Dicteer 6.7 s.
Typing 52, talking 153 words per minute: short English messages on an iPhone, measured in a lab, with speech recognition in general (not with Dicteer). A word counts as five characters. Source: Ruan et al., Stanford University, 2016.
More than Apple Dictation.
Apple types what you say, ums and all. Dicteer turns it into a clean message. The examples are in Dutch, the language Dicteer is made for.
You say: “eh dus ehm ik denk dat we uh morgen beginnen, eh nee wacht, overmorgen”. Dicteer types: “Ik denk dat we overmorgen beginnen.”
Ums, gone.
Even when you correct yourself.
You say: morgen, eh nee wacht, overmorgenDicteer types: overmorgen
Punctuation and capitals, sorted.
You never have to say “comma” again.
You say: oke tot morgen danDicteer types: Oké, tot morgen dan.
Dutch and English, mixed.
The way you actually talk.
You say: kun je die meeting naar friday movenDicteer types: Kun je die meeting naar friday moven?
Your own words.
Add names and jargon to your word list.
You say: groetjes aan kayleighDicteer types: Groetjes aan Kayleigh.
Your style.
Pick casual, business or literal.
Styles on the keyboard: CasualBusinessLiteral
Talk like a voice note. They read a text.
Nobody enjoys listening back to voice notes. Dicteer doesn't translate, and doesn't make anything up.
English words are fine.
Voice note, 0:05ik heb de meeting verzet naar vrijdag kun je even een reminder zetten
Ik heb de meeting verzet naar vrijdag. Kun je even een reminder zetten?
Ums, gone.
Voice note, 0:03eh zullen we ehm zaterdag uh uit eten gaan
Zullen we zaterdag uit eten gaan?
Names spelled right.
Voice note, 0:04zeg tegen chayenne dat ik tien minuten later ben
Zeg tegen Chayenne dat ik tien minuten later ben.
How it works.
Dicteer is a keyboard. Set it up once, then dictate in any app.
One-time setup
Add the keyboard.
Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard > Dicteer.
Turn on Full Access.
Tap Dicteer in the same list. Without Full Access, the keyboard can't talk to the app.
Then open the Dicteer app. The first time, it asks for your microphone.
Then, in any app
Tap the mic.
Switch to Dicteer with the globe key, then tap.
Dicteer opens for a moment.
The app turns on the mic and starts listening.
Go back.
Tap ◀ in the top-left corner, or swipe right along the bottom.
Talk.
The line moves with your voice.
Tap to stop.
Your text is there.
Why does the app open?
Apple doesn't let keyboards use the microphone themselves. So the Dicteer app turns it on, and it can only do that while it's on your screen for a moment.
Then it stays ready.
After your last dictation, the mic stays ready for 2 minutes by default. So you can keep dictating without switching. The clock restarts every time you tap stop. When it runs out, the mic turns off and your next tap opens the app briefly again.
You choose how long.
1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes, or off right away. The × on the keyboard turns the mic off immediately.
Ready isn't recording.
Only what you say between tap and stop gets processed. Dicteer throws everything else away right away. The orange dot at the top of your screen just means the mic is open.
On the Mac, hold fn.
Talk, release fn and the text appears where your cursor is. In any app.
Business in Mail, casual in WhatsApp. For macOS 26 or later.

Which apps does it work in?
Almost anywhere you type. Password fields and some banking apps don't allow other keyboards. On the Mac, it works wherever your cursor is.
Why not just use Apple Dictation?
It's free and often works offline too. But it types exactly what you say, ums and all. Dicteer turns it into a clean message.
Does it work without internet?
On your iPhone, yes. With no internet, or if the service can't be reached, your iPhone recognizes the dictation itself, using Apple's speech recognition. That skips the cleanup. Want that all the time? Choose On your iPhone in the app. Your iPhone needs the Dutch speech model for this; the app downloads it when you're online. On the Mac, you do need internet.
Which languages?
Dutch, with English mixed in. In EU mode, a dictation that's entirely in English comes out less well.
What happens to what I say?
You choose where your speech is processed: fast via the worldwide service, or only in Europe. After that, the recording is deleted from your device. Read the privacy policy.
Is the microphone always on?
After a dictation, the mic stays ready for a little while, two minutes by default. That way you can talk again right away, without opening the app first. During that time nothing is recorded, stored or sent. The orange dot at the top of your screen only shows that the mic is open. You choose how long, or set it to off right away.
How do I get into the beta?
